Smyrna Rotarians are known for friendliness and for their generous support of The Rotary Foundation’s humanitarian and educational good works. For several consecutive years Smyrna has been among the top clubs in the world in per capita giving to the Annual Programs Fund. The club has been number one in the District numerous times receiving the Albert D. Thomson award for per capita support in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Smyrna Rotarians have a passion for service. The club undertakes significant local projects making use of district simplified grants and participates in meaningful world community service projects making use of Foundation matching grants.
Smyrna Rotary was the first club in District 6900 to become a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club, on July 1, 2004. On July 1, 2009, (after more than doubling membership) club members honored Governor Roy by doing it again. What a great way to start the year!
On July 1 each year, Smyrna Rotary becomes a 100% EREY club. For six consecutive years on July 1, Smyrna has become a Rotary Foundation 100% Sustaining Member club. The club has four active Major Donors and a dozen Paul Harris Society and Governor’s Circle members. Every member is a Sustaining Member. Every member is a Paul Harris Fellow.
The club has hosted a GRSP student since 1965-1966.
Smyrna Rotary meetings are vital and engaging. Business and professional leaders of the community meet each week for lunch and a program of interest. Smyrna Rotary has become an important and thought-provoking speaker's forum attracting prominent speakers. A premium is placed on attendance at weekly meetings and the meetings are a nice blend of fellowship, networking, Rotary information, and entertainment.
Smyrna Rotary has provided the district 3 governors: Gardner Potter (1971-1972), Lee Howard (1984-1985), and DG Roy Strickland . Emerging leaders are taking an active part in district activities this year.
The Rotary Club of Smyrna has a proud 45 year tradition of Service Above Self. District Governor Roy is especially proud to be a Smyrna Rotarian.
